Jean-Baptiste Jossa

Jean-Baptiste Jossa is a French-born violinist, violist, and composer currently residing in Auckland. He studied at the Versailles Conservatory in France under Saskia Lethiec, graduating in 2016 with first prize. He also studied viola at the Cergy Conservatory with Laurent Bruni, earning third prize in the national young violists' competition. Throughout his career in France, Jean-Baptiste regularly performed with various orchestras in Paris, Versailles and Lisieux.
Since 2024, Jean-Baptiste has been living in New Zealand, performing the violin with many ensembles such as Opus and Bach Musica. He's recently joined New Classic Sinfonia as their principal violist.
Jean-Baptiste is also a composer, having written for a wide range of media, including theatre, musicals, animation, podcasts, chamber music, and orchestras. In New Zealand, he has contributed to the Taonga Pūoro (Māori instruments) repertoire and is actively involved with the Composer Association of New Zealand (CANZ).
Jean-Baptiste has been teaching the violin and music theory in France, while directing small orchestras and bands for musical theatre productions performed in Paris. His teaching approach is flexible and diverse, tailored to the needs and musical tastes of his students, always combining technique with music to ensure that the experience is both instructive and enjoyable.
